People in Peril
With the new identity for People in Peril we aimed to create an easily recognizable and memorable logo with wide adaptability. People in Peril is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation. It was founded in 1999 by a group of journalists who were humanely moved by the overwhelming impact of the conflict on civilians in the then war-torn Kosovo. Their spontaneous humanitarian response resulted in the need to establish an organisation that responds directly to emerging crisis situations around the world. Their mission is to effectively help people suffering from the consequences of war, natural disasters and authoritarian regimes. Through educational activities and work in excluded communities in Slovakia, they contribute to building an open, tolerant and inclusive society.
The primary goal of the new identity of the humanitarian organisation People in Peril was to create a logo that, given the nature of the organisation, had to be particularly easy to recognise and remember - even for people who cannot read. The secondary objective was its wide applicability and variability. This was achieved by designing a line symbolising the human connection between the person in need and the helper. Simultaneously, the line, shaped like the outline of a human figure, forms a protective shield over the person in need. This abstract yet easily identifiable shape allows for diverse content integration, including words (in different languages if needed) and visuals essential to the organisation’s communication. The principle of the line also makes it easy to work with when creating identities for other projects of the organisation - for example, the Jeden Svet Film Festival, where the line symbolises a coiled filmstrip or globe.
