10-Year-Old
Flaam Festival '23

What does it mean when a festival is 10 years old? Does it mean it's already established and slipping into boredom? No, 10 years is still not enough – 10-year-old kids are full of playfulness, naivety and they hate boredom. So we brought in a 10-year-old illustrator to collaborate!
Flaam is a boutique (mostly) music festival taking place in Nitra, Slovakia. Founded in 2014 by a group of best friends, curious art fans and avid festival goers, it’s grown into one of the most interesting and unique festivals in the country. While following in the footsteps of its bigger and older airfield-based festival siblings in incorporating all kinds of art into its DNA, Flaam presents itself as a unique festival beast of its own due to its intimate atmosphere, playful approach and courage to present fresh and audacious art.
Ten-year-old Eliáš Bálik created dozens of illustrations which we folded into a complex identity: from cotton candy swatting wasps away to portaloos slathered in sunscreen. The illustrations fit perfectly with the festival's claims: "A Small Playground for Big Kids" or "A Two-Day Battle with Summer Boredom." This aesthetic extended to the festival grounds, the workshops, merchandise or other components that referred to children's themes, but in a different way – to the children we still have hidden inside us.
